so as many of you know. friday of LAST week our basement experienced a mini flood. luckily i was home during the day [due to a work snow day]. ian was quick to return home to help me find the home warranty paperwork so that we were able to file a claim to get a plumber out asap. apparently our water heater went out. not very cool. but luckily i was home, minimizing the potential damage. and the repair was covered under our warranty! [SILVER LININGS] ian was the calm one. who keep our spirits high with jokes about having friends over for a beach themed luau. i was in crisis mode, angry with our adorable little home. and he was giggling and keeping the mood light. i love how well we can balance each other out.
[me not wanting my picture taken while having a mini breakdown]
[at this point we had already pulled the carpet back]
[we did that as soon as we could!!]

[we ended up with flip flops on to protect our feet from the nail strips and carpet staples - which fit PERFECTLY into ian's jokes about the beach party]
[so we can mark new water heater to the recent home upgrades]
[survey of some of the damage]
[also please take note of our new seating area set up]
[yes we did actually watch a movie down there on this night between all the boxes everyone could see the tv. winner winner]
[we had to pull the carpet up. mop up the water. and rip up the foam pad under the carpet]
[blue foam + carpet glue + 2 new DIY homeowners + questionable wedges]
[yep. that is my husband. squished in there cutting the foam pad]
[after the new water heater was installed we rented a commercial grade fan to dry the carpets]
[after running a few hours it was mostly dry. and we were able to use the carpet steam vac cleaner to pull up excess water]
[ultimately we ran the fan for aprox 16 hours of the total 24 hours we rented it - turning it off only during the overnight hours]
[surveying the damage. still a little sad]
[getting ready to glue the carpet pad down]

we then rented the carpet kicker on this past friday night. one week later we got the carpet officially put back down. the desk back in place. and everything relatively organized. happy weekend!
[everything laid back out and cleaned up]
[can you tell it was laundry day at our house?]
hope your weekend was as productive as ours.
what's left to do:
-paint [spoiler alert we might do an accent wall]
-update downstairs bathroom
-hang diplomas
