main floor rest room before and after

well folks we are about 85% done with updating our bathroom. it has been such a fun adventure. and seriously it was an adventure. i thought choosing a paint color was difficult but that turned out to be the easiest part of all. what began as an "i'm going to paint the bathroom this weekend" project quickly turned into a "we have to tear up the entire floor" project. there was some tension and stress between ian and i because of this but i love the sense of putting it all back together. we seriously know how to handle a crisis. the period of 1-2 weeks when we had no flooring, tools scattered about, one old toilet in our backyard and one toilet disassembled in our living room was frustrating but totally worth it. while the flooring was being laid out by my handsome husband ian and great family friend jon i went to work on repainting the vanity and closet doors. and a fresh white coat of paint made a HUGE difference! check out the vanity -->

but no DIY project is complete without a few hiccups. problems that we ran into along the way. water damage to the plaster wall just around the trim near the shower where water may leak if the shower curtain is not shut completely. it was easily fixed by patching with drywall, thin particle board and covering with plaster. we had to sand it down for evenness prior to painting but it actually worked. we also had a major/minor leak when the vanity was returned to it's place but the water hook ups were not sealed tightly. leading to a leak that damaged a few tiles and got our basement carpet wet. AGAIN! seriously! that carpet has got to go at some point. the good news is that my sister in law Evan was home and alerted Ian immediately. he was able to tear the carpet up quickly and use a fan to dry it out yet again. and then he worked to replace the tile flooring that was damaged. thank goodness for treated wood to protect the wood subfloor.

here was our original project list:
-paint walls - DONE
-paint trim - we still need to cut and replace all the trim - we decided to upate to a thicker trim
-replace flooring with updated peel and stick tile flooring - DONE
-replace toilet - DONE
-update accessories and decor - work in progress

-we also switched out the door handles on the door and the closet, and the vent.

here are few before and after pictures

here is our to do list:
-regrout and seal
-relay floor trim between the two rooms
-finish and paint trim
-caulk around the shower and toilet to protect it from damage and make the final product more finsihed
-select and hang new artwork (i have some awesome ideas)
-possibly hang a coordinating half window curtain
